Join The New York Times as a Project Manager on our Growth team, leading strategic projects and supporting day-to-day operations of our digital teams.

The teams working on Growth unlock the full revenue potential of our subscription business by building experiences and developing capabilities that grow and engage qualified audiences, convert engaged readers into new subscribers, and identify and experiment with new growth levers. Subscribers are our most engaged and valuable users, and a key focus of the company’s strategy for growth. We need to continue to develop and deepen the customer relationship.

As a core member of your project teams, you are expected to identify opportunities, suggest solutions, and act decisively when necessary to advance a project. We’re looking for an action-oriented, hands-on project manager who can manage multiple teams and projects. There’s no “one-size-fits-all” here; each team can require different levels of involvement and intensity of agile processes.

What You’ll Do

  • Project Leadership: Work closely with Product and Engineering to manage multiple software development projects from initiation through completion. Mediate to bring consensus on priority, scope and realistic timelines. Motivate and maintain a healthy project team momentum.
  • Visibility - Ensure shared understanding of project goals and success criteria across the entirety of the project team. Promote a free flow of information with and among partners and team members on all matters.
  • Collaboration and Team: Work with partners, including engineers, QA, product, design, data, and business, to move projects forward. You may organize team-level ceremonies for stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
  • Communication: Transparency - Track and communicate project status, risks, and emergent issues that are readily accessible and current.
  • Continuous Improvement - Detect systemic issues, process problems, and other risks and work with the appropriate colleagues to find resolutions.
  • Impediment Removal: Actively find, track and remove impediments to the Team’s throughput and barriers to project completion.

Qualifications

  • You have 4+ years experience in project management running diverse software development projects.
  • You can relay strategies, goals, and project status to both technical and non-technical partners
  • You have demonstrated experience working in both Agile and waterfall methodologies.
  • You can build a team that consists of both on-site and remote team members.
  • You are technically fluent - you understand the basic concepts behind APIs, frameworks, networking, cloud computing, etc. You do not need an engineering background, but need to be comfortable being in conversations with technical teammates daily.
  • You exhibit knowledge of Jira, or other equivalent project management / task management tooling.
  • You’re passionate about the mission of The New York Times and show a commitment to be part of our innovation and growth.
